Beijing warns of dire consequences if Taiwan declares independence According to the Express Tribune, a Chinese government official said that if Taiwan provoked and took any step towards independence, China would take extreme measures. "Over the next year, Taiwan's provocations and external interference in this matter will intensify, which we are ready to deal with," the official said.
According to the report, Taiwan has a democratic government and China claims to be part of the country. Over the past two years, China has stepped up its military activities near Taiwan and is putting diplomatic pressure on Taiwan, which has increased tensions between Taiwan and China.
Taiwan has received serious threats from China on several previous occasions if it gains independence. Earlier this year, China said Taiwan's bid for independence would mean open war. China's threat was met with a strong response from the United States, which said the tension should not escalate into a confrontation.
It should be noted that since the civil war in China in 1949, China and Taiwan have had separate governments and Taiwan claims to be an independent country while China still claims it as its part.
